Olympia Career Training Institute is now Everest
The Olympia Career Training Institute has changed names to Everest Institute, and its division, Olympia College, is now Everest College. At Everest, we believe that all students should have the support of an institution dedicated to their success. We specialize in offering short-term diploma programs that can take nine months to complete.
History of Olympia Career Training Institute
The Everest Institute campuses in Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo in Michigan (both now closed), formerly known as Olympia Career Training Institute, was founded as Grand Rapids Educational Center in 1972 and was located in the heart of the city at the Towers Medical Building.
In 1980, the school relocated to the Northbrook Office Park and continued with quality health career-training programs. The Institute subsequently added two additional locations: Kalamazoo, Michigan, in 1989 (as Olympia Career Training Institute) and Merrillville, Indiana (also now closed), in 1996 (as Olympia College).
In 1993, the Grand Rapids campus moved to a new facility on Woodworth Street. Corinthian Colleges, Inc. acquired the three campuses in February 2001. In April of 2007, the name of the two Michigan campuses was changed to Everest Institute.
Everest College in Merrillville, Indiana was originally founded as Inservicer’s College of Health Education in January 1990. It changed its name to Horizon Career College in April 1994.
In April 1996, Malone Management Company purchased the college’s assets under the name of Grand Rapids Educational Center, Inc. Corinthian Colleges acquired the school in February 2001 and changed the name to Olympia College
In July 2001, the college moved to its current facilities, where it operated as an additional location of the main Everest Institute Campus in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In April of 2007, the name of the campus was changed to Everest College.
Additional campuses were acquired and added under the Olympia College brand in Illinois, including Skokie in April 2001, Burr Ridge in September 2002, Chicago in June 2003, North Aurora in January 2005, and Merrionette Park in October 2005. All of the Illinois campuses were changed to the Everest College brand in April 2007.
